WORCESTER — A downtown property owner says some merchants in the central business district have seen their business drop by as much as 40 percent since the Worcester Regional Transit Authority moved its bus hub from City Hall to Foster Street, next to Union Station.
Dean Marcus, owner of the Midtown Mall on Front Street, told the City Council’s Public Service and Transportation Committee Monday night that the change in location of the WRTA hub has “really impacted” downtown tenants and businesses because fewer bus riders are now on Main Street.
He said moving the hub to Foster Street last month has forced bus riders to walk three blocks or more to get to businesses along Main Street and elsewhere within the central business district.
