New Community Shuttle Service in Grafton, Northbridge, Paxton and Westborough

In December 2013, the WRTA will begin flexible fixed-route shuttle service in the towns of Grafton, Northbridge, Paxton and Westborough. These new services will provide transit service that has not operated in these communities in over 40 years.

Service will begin in Grafton, Northbridge and Westborough on Monday, December 2, 2013 and operate on all weekdays.

Service in Paxton will begin on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 and operate on Wednesdays and Fridays.

The following is a summary of each of the new routes:

Grafton-Northbridge:

ROUTE A (NORTHBRIDGE WALMART—SHOPPES at BLACKSTONE VALLEY via Fisherville)

Route A will operate from the Northbridge Wal-Mart to the Blackstone Valley Shoppes via Main Street and Church Street in Whitinsville to Plummer’s Corner.  From Plummer’s Corner, the route will follow Route 122 through Riverdale, Rockdale and South Grafton to Fisherville. In Fisherville, Route A will use Route 122A to travel to the Sutton town line where it will operate closed door through Sutton and Millbury to the Shoppes at Blackstone Valley. Route A will follow this routing in reverse to return to the Wal-Mart.

ROUTE B (NEW VILLAGE—ROCKDALE—STOP & SHOP—GRAFTON MBTA STATION)

Route B will operate from the New Village Neighborhood to the Grafton MBTA Station in the morning and afternoon periods with the route passing by Grafton Municipal Center/High School and Stop & Shop plaza. During the remainder of the day, service will operate from New Village to the Stop and Shop plaza via the Grafton Common.

Paxton:

THE PAXTON SHUTTLE (ANNA MARIA COLLEGE—UNION STATION HUB via Paxton Center and Tatnuck Square) – WEDNESDAYS AND FRIDAYS ONLY

The Paxton Shuttle will operate from Anna Maria College to the WRTA’s Union Station Hub in the morning period (6:25am-9:15am) and afternoon period (3:00pm-6:25pm) on Wednesdays and Fridays. The route follows Grove Street, Maple Street, and Pleasant Street and provides service to locations that include Town Hall/Town Common, Paxton Sports Center and Anna Maria College.

Westborough:

THE WESTBOROUGH SHUTTLE provides service as two distinct types: “commuter route” and “local route.”

The “commuter route” provides direct, limited stop service from the Westborough MBTA commuter rail station to the Computer Drive/Research Drive Office Park areas using Otis Street and Route 9. Trips via this routing are provided with one morning trip, one midday trip and two evening trips. “Flag stops” are not provided along any other portion of this routing. “Flag stops” are only available on the local route

The “local route” provides service between the Route 30 McDonalds and the Westborough High School along East and West Main Streets. Other destinations along this routing include Bay State Commons, the Westborough Senior Center, Town Hall, the Westborough Library and the Westborough Post office. These trips are provided during the day when commuter trips are not provided. “Flag stops” are provided along any portion of this routing.

General Information:

  • Fares for these shuttles will be $1.50 full fare/$0.75 half- fare. Cash can be paid on the vehicle.
  • The routes will operate on a “flag” system like other fixed-routes outside of Worcester. The bus will stop in a safe location to pick-up and drop-off passengers when the bus is waved down on the roadside
  • Service will “flex” for passengers who qualify for service under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Vehicles will be large vans that can hold up to 12 passengers
  • Schedules are available on the bus and at various locations in each town.
